We Reflect and Say Goodbye to 2024

 The year comes to an end, and we reflect on and say goodbye to 2024.

It has been an exciting year for YZ: The team progressed the development of a wind farm in the Upper Hunter on behalf of our client Maven Renewable Energy; engaged by Lumea, we supported the grid connection process for the largest BESS projects in Australia to date, Waratah BESS and Eraring BESS; and let’s not forget the launch of our new brand!

We look forward to more exciting projects and successes in 2025 and wish you all a very merry festive season and a happy new year!

YZ is Bracing Rough Terrain

A 4WD Off-Road course seemed sensible considering the adventurous experiences the YZ Team has encountered on site visits, exploring potential wind turbine locations in landholders’ trucks. It turns out that testing diff lock, traction and descend control in rugged terrain and not getting slingshot during recovery is lots of fun!

Little caveat: The next time we are hugging a steep side slope in a landowner’s 4×4, we know how dangerous it is. Ignorance is indeed bliss.

Wind Farm Work

YZ made substantial progress on the Upper Hunter Energy Park development. We submitted the grid connection application and secured the easement deeds for the transmission line route while working closely along the conditions of the development approval. Most recent surveys led to a better understanding of the terrain, including the location of culturally significant sites and wombat burrows. In 2025, it’s full steam ahead towards construction.

Managing Grid Connection

As part of a long-term contract with Lumea (Transgrid group), Yannick supported the various technical teams from the developer, the transmission network and the market operator. Some outcomes from this year’s grid connection grind: registration approval for Waratah BESS (850 MW); connection approval for Eraring BESS (470 MW); registration for Walla Walla Solar Farm (300 MWac). The grid connection process in Australia is renowned to be one of the most difficult in the world. Let’s see if we can beat these numbers in 2025!
