The Client
As a new entrant to the renewable energy sector, Maven Renewable Energy’s core business is finance. As such, our client took over ownership of a wind farm project in the Hunter Region to be developed under its special-purpose vehicle, Maven Renewable Energy, based in Sydney, Australia.
The Project
The wind farm, situated in the Hunter Region in NSW, Australia, has a rich development history. The current design proposes 18 wind turbines at an installed capacity of approx. 80MW, powering around 27,000 average Australian households. The project has undergone several redesigns over its development period and weathered the storms of political, commercial and social challenges over the years. Now is the time to bring it to financial close and start construction with an aim to be fully operational by 2027.
YZ’s Role
Maven Renewable Energy engaged YZ to coordinate the entire suite of development activities from its initial status to financial close. The proponent’s key criteria for selecting YZ as their advisory and project management team were our hands-on experience in large-scale renewable energy projects and close connection with the industry community in the Hunter region. YZ’s task is to manage the various workstreams at different development stages and overcome challenges and roadblocks to create a construction-ready wind farm project.
The Outcome
To date, YZ has delivered the following milestones:
- Secured easement deeds for the 12 km long transmission line route across private and publicly owned land, connecting the site substation with the existing grid
- Prepared and submitted the grid connection application to Ausgrid and AEMO (power system modelling via subcontractor)
- Scoped the work and selected and engaged contractors in the areas of planning, ecology, community engagement, electrical design, etc.
- Engaged a turbine supplier and shortlisted EPCs
- Planned out and addressed pre-construction requirements up to financial close
